    Greetings from Principal Benfield!

Hello and welcome back to the new school year! Our school has stepped up and move forward in positive and rewarding ways, despite the virtual challenges. Last year I had the privilege of becoming part of the Thornton Creek family as the Assistant Principal where I listened, gathered and stored information about what makes our school community unique. This year I am serving as the Interim Principal and want to continue to build those relationships with our students and families, even in this remote setting! Now more than ever, we will need to become partners on this uncharted journey. This newsletter will serve as place to house everything from reminders, to events, celebrations and the great work of our supportive parent communities and teaching staff.

    Meet the Office Staff!

These events will include lecture and discussion opportunities for the TC community around topics including how white privilege impacts a school community, how to expand a welcoming environment at TC, and what roles community members can take in supporting equity and promoting anti-racism.

Please join us for the first event on Thursday, October 8th from 6:30-8:30pm via Zoom. RSVP here to receive the meeting link and information.

    Student Support Tip!

The transition to Remote Learning may take some adjustment. Positive reinforcement of the behaviors you want to see is a top-tier, well researched strategy to support our learners. Use this technique as encouragement, prevention (setting kids up for success), and for redirection as needed.

“Our family values being on time. Thank you for being ready.”

“I noticed you were on time for class today.”

“You were on time today and I didn’t have to remind you.”

“Please be on time. It is important.”
