    From Principal Doug:

This spring's SPS Standardized Assessment window will fall between late April through early June. Assistant Principals, Dina Clagg (2nd – 4th Grade) and Alexandra Benfield (K,1st and 5th Grade), are working with staff to begin drafting a specific site-based schedule we will share in the coming months.

I have asked our school staff to plan for the minimum SPS standardized assessment requirements (as standardized assessment data is only one small piece within a larger mosaic of student learning and progress) which means...

    • 1st and 2nd Grade students will engage in the MAP (Measurement of Academic Progress) standardized assessment for reading and math
    • 3rd and 4th Graders will engage in the SBA (Smarter Balance Assessment) standardized assessment for literacy and math
    • 5th Graders will engage in the SBA assessment for literacy and math and the WCAS (Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science)

This also means that the assessment window will again fall over the observance of Ramadan (4/23 - 5/23). If your family observes Ramadan please reach out to Dina (206-252-5296) or Alex (206-252-5274) so we can partner with you to ensure the school has the right accommodations in place for students and families to be culturally responsive and supportive during both school hours and the assessment window.
