Parents provide the connecting link between the community and the school, bringing experience, ideas, and materials into the classrooms. Parents work cooperatively with staff and students, and they participate as equal partners in governance as members of the Thornton Creek Site Council. Our goal is to develop a strong, informal relationship between students, staff, and parents, creating a close-knit, cooperative learning environment that fosters the growth and development of each child.
Your volunteer service not only benefits the school and students, but it also can help you feel connected to the community. Moreover, it provides a way for you to have a say in your child’s education and in the future of our school.
We ask each Thornton Creek parent to fulfill a 40-hour volunteer commitment every year.
A job for everyone
There is a job for every parent, skill level, interest, and schedule! Got a lot of time? Consider a leadership position with Site Council. Need a job you can do on your own time at home? Contact your child’s teacher about preparing classroom materials, or offer your support to the fundraising committee. Want to connect with other kids in school? Signup as a weekly classroom volunteer or chaperone some field trips. Love books? Help us maintain our library by sorting, shelving, and checking out books. Like to be outdoors? Help maintain our grounds.
Finding your own way to serve can be fun! If you have special skills, talents, or access to resources, please let your child's teacher know.
