Hello TC families,
We have a critical need in our Thornton Creek Parent Group community to fill two very important positions for the 2017-2018 school year: Site Council Chair and Vice Chair.
Have you thought about volunteering but want to learn more about the positions? The existing chairs, our very own Stacy Earlywine and Cathy Reidy Liermann, offer up their insight into Thornton Creek Site Council via a quick Q&A below! If you have more questions, feel free to reach out to Stacy and Cathy and please consider stepping up to serve our community in these positions. Signing up early means even more time to receive mentoring!
What is the role of the Site Council Chair?
At a bare minimum, we conduct monthly site council meetings and communicate regularly with the committee chairs.
I see you at school a lot! What else keeps you busy?
There’s no limit to how much we can give to Thornton Creek – there is always more to do depending on your motivation and interest. In addition to regular meetings, we speak at new parent tours and volunteer at some of the events we hold during the school year.
How much time is required to fill these positions?
The basic time commitment is a few hours a week. This can vary by week – hours tend to increase during spring budgeting and the week before the monthly Site Council meeting.
What are some of the typical things you do each week?
· We work closely with our treasurer to develop a budget for the next school year.
· Respond to parent emails
· Plan the monthly meetings
· Sign thank you letters to fundraising donors
· Organize town hall meetings as needed
Are the positions flexible?
In our opinion, it is good to be at school regularly to be a visible presence for families – this can be at pick up or drop off. Except for the Site Council monthly meeting, other duties are pretty flexible and can revolve around your schedule.
What do you like best about leading Site Council?
It’s a fun job! We’ve gotten a deeper understanding of how things work at Thornton Creek, and we’ve made great connections with teachers and parents.
